God is the Trinity and one God at the same time. The Trinity of God is: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He shows us who He is both in the Old and the New Testaments. God shows that He is a God of judgment in the Old Testament and New Testament. He also shows that He is a God of compassion and mercy leading up to and after the death of Christ.
God the Father, in the Old Testament, punished people for their sin. He showed them that to sin was to be completely separated from Him forever. He was showing that He was the only God by different acts of judgment on the pagan gods in and around Israel. (Judges 6:25-32; 1 Sam. 5:1-5)
In the New Testament, He shows that He is merciful by sending Jesus, His Son, to die on the cross for our sins.
God the Son, Jesus Christ, is seen in little parts of the Old Testament by types like Moses or Joseph. In the New Testament, Jesus is shown bringing true repentance and faith. He shows Himself as a mediator between God and man. He brings man to God through His perfect death and suffering. Without Jesus, we would still be 'dead in our trespasses and sins.' (paraphrase; Eph. 2:1)
God the Spirit, is the One who convicts us of our sins and shows us the areas where we need to change in. He lives in our hearts and changes us through trials and temptations. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter that Jesus was saying that He would send. (Jn 14:26; 16:7; Acts 2:1-4)
God is the law-Giver. He gave Israel the law so they would see that nothing they ever did was perfect in His sight. God proved it in the way they turned to serve false gods. At the same time, He proved that He knows everything.
God is Almighty. He controls everything that lives in, on, and under the world.
God is loving. In John 3:16, it says that God loved the world so much that He gave up His Son. God even turned away from His Son that He may be satisfied with Jesus' perfect death and we may have eternal salvation and praise God. Then Jesus rose and ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God.
God is peace. He brings peace to those who are troubled in spirit and mind.
In conclusion, God is an infinity of different and limitless attributes. We also need to praise God for everything that He is and ever has been.
